Default Austin Somerset

Here's one for Unicorn1. I know its not a Devon but still a county car. I spotted this cracker at a local show, run by the Triumph Club, last Saturday.

Beautiful. I remember a neighbour had one when I was little. I begged my dad to buy one, I thought they looked terrific. He never bought one though. 😰😰

Default Austin Somerset

Nice car, and a good capture of the shine the owner has achieved!

It's interesting that, given the Somerset was only produced for about two years, how many have survived. The Devon was made for six years, however most early Devons were exported - in 1948 the year of Doris' birth - a staggering 96% were exported!

My friend has a very original '54 Somerset, and at the end of June we're both off to Bedford for the Austin Counties Car Club national meet, a fair old run from Canterbury!

Les

Sorry forgot to reply to this. Would you believe one has turned up locally for sale. Mind you they have added £1000 to the price it was for sale for last year. Here's the only other photo I took that day and one of my favourite Morris' a Series E Morris 8

I owned a silver grey model for two years in 1962. The body shape was classy but the engine was seriously underpowered for the weight being only 1200cc. It had a constant problem with blowing head gaskets. It needed at least 1500. But it was a nice car. Chas.
