Default Immobiliser problem ?

Hello all, I'm hoping that the collective knowledge of the forum maybe able to help ?

Yesterday, the battery on my 75 was very low after being parked up for a couple of weeks. I successfully got it started via a starter pack and all seemed well. Unfortunately, I didn't leave well alone !!! I removed the battery to trickle charge overnight.

Today, after putting the battery back in, it appears that the immobiliser is stuck on. Car remotely unlocks, ignition lights all come on and I can hear the pumps priming fine. When I turn the key nothing !!

I've tried the usual fixes I've found like unlocking with key and pressing the unlock buttons 5 times, leaving ignition on etc., all have worked for other people, but, not for me.

Has anybody get any other ideas or even how to switch off or bypass the offending item ?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks.

Hi Richard,
A couple of thoughts
1) Do you have a spare key you can try?
2) Do you have a message center dash (trip computer type) as if so this will tell you the car is immobilised (if it doesn't then the car isn't immobilised). The dash with just lamps in the top section is not so helpful.

This could be bad luck, and the starter motor giving you problems - the reason I say this is that I thought that if the car is immobilised then the fuel pump will not kick in.
I will go and check shortly

*edit* looks like the fuel pumps do kick in even when the immobiliser is active?

Regards
Chris

Starter solenoid? I had similar with my 1.8T, everything fine but nothing happened when turning the key to the start position. Started after God knows how many attempts, bought a new solenoid (no repair kit for the 1.8 solenoid) with the intention of swapping it but the problem never reappeared.

Richard,

Your battery is probably still discharged. A trickle charge will be insufficient. You need to charge it using equipment with several amps output for at least 24 hours. Do this then try again and I wouldn't be surprised if the engine starts.

Don't forget to wait for the sat. nav. unit to shut down before disconnecting the battery from the car.
