Default 7"tablet installs

Hi

All you guru's out there that have done tablet installs can you answer a cpl of questions for me pls:

What is the advantage of using the google nexus as opposed to acer iconia b1?

Do any of the tablets support audio out via the micro usb/charging port??

Would I be better off going for samsung galaxy tab2?

I will be keeping my original pioneer head unit MVH-X370BT and relocating to where the cup-holder is but really don't want to connect via headphone socket as I have found when using aux input the volumes have to be turned up very loud resulting in ear splitting agony when any other source is selected?

Is it possible to connect via the usb in on the front of the head-unit?

The major reason for using the nexus tablet is that some very enterprising individuals have created tweaked versions of the operating system. There are a few different versions available but I use one (TIMURS ROM) which specifically allows the tablet to work with devices connected to the micro usb input at the same time as receiving a charge from the car.

Normally android will only do one or the other - if you want to use external devices with it like in my case a usb DAC then you can't also charge the tablet at the same time. Obviously using it in the car you really want it to be charging the whole time and not have to pull it out every couple of days to recharge!

I had mine set up nicely in a different car but having recently sold that I swapped the system into my ZT. I've got my tablet audio running through the USB DAC, then into the AUX input of the original stereo instead of the CD changer. I've also put a little amplifier in the loop between the stereo and the car speaker loom as the original stereo is fairly poor. That's used like a master volume and just set and then forgotten, hidden behind the dash.

The nexus tablets are getting a bit long in the tooth now though, if I were doing it again now and more interested in feature/function rather than having a go at doing it for myself I'd probably just buy one of the android double DIN units which should work a whole lot better out of the box and aren't really a lot more money but will save you a huge amount of time.

At the time I was happy to read up about the ROMS and mess around with that myself and enjoyed doing so though, so good luck if you do this yourself too.

Other tablets may now have appropriate features to use them instead, there are a bunch of car audio forums and also the android developer forums which have a host of information about different possibilities for these things, you'll need to do some research to see what works well these days as I made my system a few years ago. If you pick a route which others have tried and succeeded with in the past though, you should be able to work out solutions to all their problems in advance!
