Ours was showing what I expected, with the exception of "HTF8A4XX", apparently a Hudl
We don't own a Hudl! A quick Google search suggests this is some kind of W10 glitch, as opposed to someone actually accessing our network. Hope so anyway!

Literally just spotted another while I was typing!
Could it be phones that have Wi-Fi switched on, sending out "handshake" signals, and these phones are in the pockets of folk walking by? So not actually connecting? EDIT: Ironically, just switched on Wi-Fi on my own phone, and that's not showing up in the list!

Windows 10 strikes again
A wild guess here - WiFi sense is switched on on your pc?
Look here on ars-technica for further info on this nifty PIA in Windows 10.

I think this article probably answers the question, specifically

It's been shown that turning off SSID broadcast weakens WPA2 security. A device can't be 'on' a Wifi or ethernet network without being 'in' the network - it can however be detected if it's own the same channel - which is where wifi sense comes in. With Wifi sense switched on these other devices are displayed in windows so that you can (if you really want to) click on one and share your wifi connection credentials with them . Despite all the horror stories - hacking a wifi network using WPA2 with WPS switched off and that has a good password is not easily achieved (router insecurities excluded) - far simpler to go hack a website that you'll visit and get you that way.

Have you checked you are not operating as a Hotspot?
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...mobile-hotspot While you are in Settings I'd switch off everything under Mobile Hotspot and everything under Wifi except Wifi itself.

Yes there were lots of different phones appearing, as commuters were passing.
