Default Problems programming new Message center IPK

I have just returned from Lindfield Rover in Haywards heath after attempting to get my brand new and shiny IPK with message center paired to my car with a T4.

First they stated straight away they have only ever done like to like replacements and as I was replacing a non Message center one with a message center one they were not sure it could be done. I assured them that other people including some from this site have done it so they said they would give it a go. They also assured me the have the latest software on the T4.

After trying for half an hour they gave up. Apparently they could not get the new IPK to talk or be recognised by the car at all. They have given me a printout of the error and I'll pot it shortly. So I have now returned with my old unit in place.

I have 2 questions.
  • Is it a straight swap as far as the T4 is concerned or do they have to tell it it's an upgrade?
  • The unit was originally designed for a diesel but I have opened it up and replaced the dial overlay with a Petrol one. Could this be the problem? Can Diesel units be re-programmed for Petrol cars? I was assured by a few members that the units are actually the same and the car would sort itself out.

Obviously I'm a little sad at the moment as my new toy is not working. I've also bought a Stalk button and TMC unit and everything ready.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh dear, hope you get it sorted easily, I've got va vested interest because I've also bought a new message centre IPK...

I wonder if Test Book is a bit tempremental? When my car was new, the Rover dealer replaced the light switch module because the headlights were permanently on, but they had a right job programming the new light switch to the car.
IIRC it took 3 attempts before it would configure correctly, but once done it was fine (and has been for 8 years).

Good luck!
Pete.

If you have had a Remap or a Tuning box installed this can cause many problems with T4.
It may take the Technician a few attempts.
Turn off Synergy or any other device before matching up.

Mine is a pig to get T4 to work sometimes, but have a Custom Re Map and Synergy fitted.

Of course could be just down to not knowing how to use the T4 properly, many don't.

i've had message centres added to a 2001 190 and a 2003 CDTi (both ZT), without any problems.

I'm sure is you search back, Keith posted up some very useful information on the subject.

I think the problems lie with the operator of the T4 machine rather than any problems with cars or machinery etc.

It is my understanding that whoever operates the machine simply needs to ensure the correct options are enabled on the car when the new pack is installed along with selecting the "Highline Instrument Pack" option. The mileage/VIN back-up data is read back from the LSM and re-coded onto the new IPK. Assuming all goes to plan then you should have the IPK set-up and showing correct information in (as Dragrad says) the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee

There is nothing whatsoever with regards to mechanical, electrical, wiring etc etc differences that will stop a highline instrument pack being installed on any derivative of car.
