Next Sunday @ 8o'clock, C4, Guy Martin in a tribute to D-Day heroes He goes through the same steps as a Para & shows what it was like just before D-Day. Looks good, as usual from Guy

Me too. My late Dad landed on the beaches with the 11th armoured. He never spoke of that day.

My late father was also there, the only thing he told me was that he lost a lot of friends that day.
It must have been terrible, it was either you or them. |

Listening to some of the experiences they went through is harrowing. The nurses who got their parachutes removed so they stayed with their patients and it’s something they just accepted. Total admiration

I often wonder how the youngsters of today would cope with the trauma. My father who served in the REME had no time for people who get upset about what happened there but you can see in the faces of the people interviewed on that programme they’re living with many ghosts of the past. As you say very humbling and total respect for these men and women

What a program. I hold my hand up and say I don’t think I could do that. So massive respect to the young men 75 years ago who just got on with it and did it. As I build model kits as a mark I’d respect and REM stance to the ones that didn’t make it over the weekend I built two kits that were from D day.
