I volunteered for the Colchester section but unfortunately I will not now be able to participate. I have just received notification that I have to go into hospital for an operation in a few days time and I don't know when I shall be fit enough to drive again. I hope that you will be able to find a replacement for the Colchester/Essex section.

yes, you dont have to do the whole stretch, just as much as you feel able to contribute. We also need a co-ordinator for this stage, someone to split the route into manageable sections and arrange hand overs etc. Perhaps you might like to think about being the co-ordinator for this stage?

I would be happy to be the co-ordinator for this stage. What do I have to do?

Thanks for your kind offer to manage Stage 9.

Stage 9: Boston to Southend - Rabett_Rover

Stage 9 - 188 miles - 4.5 hours 1.30 pm - 6.00 pm (21st June)

If you follow the Stage 9 link above (google map), you can see my suggested route and approximate timings.

Given that you are in that area you will know better than I what is achievable in the time, so the way I would take it forward would be to canvas for members in your Stage who can take a section of that stage, it's entirelly up to you how long or short each section in the stage can be, and if you think there is a better/quicker/prettier route then you can change the google map, or let me know and I'll update it.

As we get a bit nearer to the end of May I'll ask Stage co-ordinators to provide a round up what bits of the route we still need to cover, handover points, timings etc.
I'll be keeping a close eye on each Stage thread, and anyone who wants anything can get in touch with me directly.
Cheers

Andrew

Just one thing how are we going to get this event into the wider media?

I have asked in an earlier posting for any of our members with publicity or promotional experience to get involved. As no one has come on board yet, its one of the activities that I, and anyone else who wants to be part of the Event Co-ordination team can take a hand in.

I know from experience that local press are always on the lookout for news items and page fillers. I've done some publicity in the past and found that local press will bite your hand of for a "press release" especially if there is strong local content.

Given that we are starting from Cowley and ending (hopefully) at Longbridge, that should give us almost guarenteed interest.
Similarly, local press along the route may also be interested. I'm happy to draft a press release for discussion, although I'd like to be sure that the club directors are also happy with whatever we produce for public consumption.

Local BBC TV also have news web sites on which they put news stories that might not make the main news bulletins. Again we will need a "campaign", to get our plans and activities out to them.
Journals and Motoring publications need a longer lead time, so we may already be too late to hit them, however they may still be interested, given the 10 year anniversary aspect.

I'd like to make some calls to see what the best way to get their interest, after I've had a conversation with the Mods/directors.

Anyone with any ideas in this area please step forward

Andrew

Default Stage Participants needed please

Things are starting to move well now in some of the Stages, with plenty of enthusiasm and energy.

We do need some more members to get involved, so if you are in the area covered by this stage, and would like to get involved, please register interest here

Many thanks: Andrew
