Default Southhampton bound.

My daughter and family are moving home from Scotland to Bishops Waltham near Southhampton in December. Ive known about the move for some time and it was a one of the reasons for me buying my 75, for comfortable long distance driving. Sat nav says the trip is 482 miles.
At the moment the furthest away trip has been 100 miles which was really effortless and oh so comfortable. So I am really looking forward to my first real long run in cruise control on 20th Dec....in fact I can't wait!

It's a jolly jaunt! I used to do a regular run up to Glasgow, it was great from the M55 upwards, almost as if someone flicks a switch and turns the traffic off!

Did Poole to just the other side of Linwood and back in a day, hell of a slog!

Bishops Waltham is a few miles down the road from me -

Info here : http://www.bishopswaltham.net/

Incidentally, only one 'h' in Southampton, though that didnt stop the makers of the sign at M27 junction 8 getting it wrong - they used two h and split the city in two - as in South Hampton !

At the end of 1999 I moved from Aberdeen down to the Gatwick area, a 550 mile trip... at that time I had a Vauxhall Calibra. No cruise control but it was a surprisigly comfortable trip. Came down through Perth and Stirling and took the M74 / M6 etc... didn't wanna tackle the A1M. Took about 11 hours I think, which is not bad considering the roadworks on the M6 back then.

What makes you think there aren't any roadworks on the M6 now?

There's a lot less than there was!

When the M6 toll opened a few years ago, it was good, you could save half an hour on your journey. But I find that nowadays the M6 moves much better and you only save about 5 mins by taking the toll... complete waste of £4.50, IMO.

I live just 4.7 miles from Bishops Waltham, and it's a lovely little town. I'm sure your daughter will be happy down here, and you now have a legitimate excuse to stretch the legs of your new aquisition on a regular basis.
