That has been going on for yonks - ever since the site was "messed" up by some techies - so no thanks button etc - if it was me i would have refused to pay them.

Yes the platform’s dated, but it’s not the platform that makes the forum. So I don’t really care as long as it keeps going and protects users’ data.

Every one of the posts here so far should have the 'Thanks' button. Where there is a demand for something it is obvious there is also a wider need. It is a courtesy being offered in appreciation of a well received comment. Oh, and we are all adult. Hopefully.

They're right about the photos etc and yes it might be a bit dated , but it's the people that's on here, their depth of knowledge and a willingness to share that makes it! |

I am no computer expert but the forum site is displayed as "https" (i.e. secure) using Safari on my fairly new laptop.
Some of my older equipment won't display any "https" sites and virtually all have this prefix now. So to be fair, I don't think the reason is the age of the club's forum platform (but that's just my amateur conclusion so I'm open to correction ). Simon

I like the site as it is. More than a few sites have gone down the road of being crayoned over by those who like to crayon and they have become dog slow as a result - even unusable in some cases. The site works for me using mainly Vista on a laptop that I bought new ~ 2008. I do have newer OS's that I can and do use on occasions but some of my stuff requires Vista or older.
Simon mentions HTTP/HTTPS, the site's switch to HTTPS did present the problem mentioned by the OP but only on threads where HTTP was present. The problem was flagged up and some posters kindly removed their old offending HTTP or changed it to HTTPS. In doing so they did the site a good turn as a small number of members had posted of having problems getting on the site and that they might have to call it a day with the site as a result. Sadly, not all members were so kind, they didn't give a hoot and continued, and continue to this day, to contaminate the site with their HTTP. They knew that just one bit of HTTP borked a whole thread with the security warning and that it was preventing some members from getting on the site. It won't have been lost on them that many surfers might well have given the site a swerve when their browser flagged up the security warning. Who knows how many potential members were lost to that. Well, well done the site when it rained on the day of the not so helpful members and it largely resolved the problem when it reconfigured the site. I have not had or seen any mention of the security warning problem since about the time of the demise of the thanks function. While HTTP is still present on the site it is to the best of my knowledge no longer a problem. I therefore wonder if the problem mentioned in the OP is one of HTTP, does it occur on a specific page and is there a link for it? Another possible cause of this problem is not site related, check your PC's clock for the correct time/date. Another cause can be a lapse of a site's security certificates but that would affect everyone. |
