Default Laptop wireless problem

I'm not able to log on via the wireless connection at home from my laptop. Other devices work fine, and the laptop does work if you connect it via a cable it works fine.
I've tried the windows fault finder and it said wireless adaptor connection is at fault, does anyone know how to reset or replace it?

Thanks.

The wireless adaptor failed on my desktop. Just a matter of obtainingthe correct item, pulling it apart and fitting it.

You can buy such parts from companies which scrap laptops and often there will be an How To, in text or video form on the Internet if you search.

The one in my laptop is very easy, just a matter of taking off a cover panel and unplugging the wifi module.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Laptop may be OK, just wireless connection in 'off' state, look for symbol like a 2 sided lighthouse beacon on function keys, (F1-F12) then press that key together with the FN key, if it's off will turn on and vice versa.

The orange light is on all the time. When I press FN and F8 it remains on, it won't go off. I'll look into getting a new adaptor.

Go to CONTROL PANEL:
open DEVICE MANAGER:
look up WIRLESS NETWEORK ADAPTORS:
open the properties and check 2 things...
a, the divice is enabled (if disabled then select ENABLE THIS DEVICE from the list

b, the system states THIS DEVICE IS WORKING PROPERLY i.e. it does not need the driver updating or another...

if your laptop has recently recieved a windows update (Automaticaly done from time to time) then it may have uploaded an incorrect driver or other which has disabled your wifi adaptor.

you can in some instances roll back the driver to the previous version if this is the case.

It's back again. I've gone into the device manager and wireless LAN has no driver loaded. Would it be a good idea to roll back the driver?

I've sorted this problem for quite a few people and it is nearly always when the laptop has an Atheros wireless adaptor and Windows 7, it gets lost or forgets the driver after an update. Often if you roll back it still won't work sometimes.
If this is the case you can grab the relevant latest driver here http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-drivers.php
