Default rover 75 taken 4 - 5 attempts to start

Hi everyone,

Im scratching my head on this one, we have had the car for 4 years and it has never missed a beat, starts first time every time, serviced once a year , with the oil being changed every 6 months, so i do look after the old girl.

Now when i go and start her up, she is not responding the way i know she can,

i have check the two fuel pumps and they are priming, could it be

1, dirty fuel

2, dirty fuel filter

3, glow plugs needing changed

4, injectors being dirty or knackered

5, fuel starvation.

6, oh and we have a brand new battery that has a 5 year warranty

when she does start, she is not as responsive as she usually is, but still pulls away fine, and the automatic box is changing just fine, that got a new oil change just two years ago.

any ideas anyone, before i take it to the garage for my mechanic to have for a week.

kind regards

david.

I believe there is a mega fuse that feeds the glowplug relay, it may have blown or you have a glowplug relay issue.
I'm sure one of the oil burner chaps will help you out soon.
Good luck.

Assuming your ECU is dry I'd start with an injector leak back test

It's simple enough to do yourself with minimal tools and equipment

Leak back test, could also be low pressure from a failed in tank pump or failing under bonnet pump.

Seal on the High pressure pump could also be at fault, i'd start by checking both pumps operation and doing a leak back test.

As Mike said glow plugs are completely not needed on these engines are will start just fine unless the weather is high into the minus's
