Default Ignition switch conundrum

Hi all,
I am getting no output on the white/red starter wire at the ignition switch.
My question is is the switch likely to be at fault or is there something in the Magic Electronics that might inhibit the switch from starting?
many thanks,
Mike.

Check if you have power to both Grey/Slate cables in pins 5 & 6 of the connector, they are both from the 50amp link 12 in the engine fuse panel, pin 5 is the power input for the White/Red cable.

No Mike; the "magic electronics" in the form of the immobilisation ECU comes after the ignition switch. You should therefore see +12v on the white/red wire when the key is turned to the starter motor position.

I'd say that's extremely unlikely. Carry out the check which Ray has recommended (noting that my wiring diagram shows pins 5 & 6 as brown/slate). These should carry unswitched battery voltage so take care. If there is nothing there, your next move would be to check fuse link 12 (50 amps ). If that's ok, lift the fusebox for signs of wiring damage which seems to afflict the diesels (before doing this I'd recommend disconnecting the battery, not forgetting to wait until the sat. nav. LED has extinguished before doing so).

Many thanks Ray and Simon, I will test that this afternoon.

Hi Guys,
I have 12v at both brown/slate wires with the key turned to start. I have jumped pin 5 to the white/red wire and the car starts, runs normally.
So I guess I have to change the ignition switch.
Do I have to drop the steering column for access?
Mike.
