Today saw me complete the final instalment of the 75's little period of cosmetic enhancement. Henceforth nothing further will be added to it. All that I shall do from now on is concentrate on keeping it to a decent standard, and, getting the mechanical side spot-on, too.
So, I'd fitted an immaculate set of standard lights last year, as attempts to revive the car's originals weren't terribly successful. I had wanted a set of projectors for the car for years, but every time I bought a set, they were either xenons, or broken, or the lenses were hazy. I got these, which arrived in very good condition, and thus set about making them immaculate, with some polishing. I'm pretty pleased with the way they look. While the front was off, I noticed there are a lot of broken fixings on my under tray, so I'll get those replaced in due course.
I copper-slipped every single bolt, and screw, so that I can take things apart with ease, should the need arise. I also blacked up everything plastic, including the fan, to smarten things up a bit. The slam panel was given a quick clean, but as the light was beginning to fade, and the weather was turning, it's not looking great. Will clean it properly again, sometime. Also realised I need to do the Shannon tube, as a matter or urgency, so will take a trip down to the motor factor's tomorrow.
On a quick run in the evening, they seem a good deal better than the originals, and I think they make the car look a little more contemporary.

It now looks exactly as I've always wanted it to. I have always liked Royal Blue as a colour, and remember fondly seeing the 'Who wants to be a millionaire?' advert when I was younger, and thinking that the car looked spot on. Thus, I've finally got my car looking as close to that, externally, as I can.

Today, while pony expressing some wheels, I stopped off at a favourite haunt, and acquired, these, which I've been after for a while. Genuine Rover rubber mats, which will be ideal for me to have in the car during the winter, or if I've been out walking, or similar, and don't want to get the carpets dirty. Never had rubber mats in a car before, so I don't know if I'll like them in use, or not. (just drying after being pressure washed, and scrubbed, hence them looking blotchy)

I have a set for the ZTT. Don't really like them as the never look clean. I tend to put them in the car if I know I'm going somewhere particularly muddy.

I have these mats also. They were quite grubby when i got them but I washed and painted them with the Tyre Wall paint stuff and they came back to life. A nice snug fit, especially the rears.

I've got a full set of these aswell Fraser.

What I did after cleaning was give them a good coating of Auto-Glym Vinyl & Rubber and left them soaking overnight.

They have stayed looking in A1 condition for ages since - well over a year!

Also I just left the Original Premier Carpet ones in place underneath. I just leave them in all the time.

Not too sure if you can see from these photo's.

Haven't got a decent one of the fronts....

Thanks for the hints and tips, everyone! I left them to dry in the garage overnight, and today, cleaned them with some diluted vinyl and rubber care, and have left them sitting overnight again. Will see how they are tomorrow. Not planning on having them in the car much, just for days when I think they'll be needed.

Anyway, today, I got a parcel through the post, containing my refurbished VIS motors from Stocktake.Promptly fitted, and the difference is very noticeable. The car has actually got some sort of mid-range power now, which it hasn't had for years, and it just feels bait more like I remember it being when I first bought it. I'd urge any V6 owner to get their VIS motors done, if they haven't already.

This has turned into a bit of a 75 week, on reflection. Anyway, today, I continued my maintenance schedule with some plenum clearing, blacking up the scuttle panel, which I didn't take photos of, followed by a quick wash and a top-up coat of wax.
