A normally aspriated 1.8K series should run 91-96 in normal useage. 96-105 is starting to get iffy, especially if tootling along (traffic jam with aircon off can see it rise to these temps) and 105 upwards is heading to danger point.

MGR's definition of 'normal' maxes out at 115C. That's when the temperature gauge moves off 'normal'/9 o'clock. The 1.8's radiator fan should kick in at around 104C. They typically run in the 95-105C range depending on driving conditions. The slower the hotter usually.

Mine........
Quote:
Mine is running fine at temps shown on instrument pack between 91 and 105 depending on what is happening to traffic. Your fan should kick in at 105. My car has had new cooling stuff including radiator, water pump, thermostat, matrix, belts, timingbelt and new remanufactured cylinder head so I reckon my temps spot on. Mine is an auto by the way. Hope this helps put mind at rest. Chris |

the temperature of the k series engines are normally quite high.
You can certainly see 105 degrees in normal usage. So to set the thing at 100 will give you many beeps. I think about 107 will be a good point, because if you get there, you want to make sure the fan is on and that it does not go higher. That will be a warning about 8 degrees earlier than the gauge will give you. But play along and increase it gradually until you only hear it occasionally. Then you know it works and you will quickly learn to anticipate the times it will chime. |
