Is Photography an anti social hobby?
Just been working on the photo’s I took at my Nephews wedding, making up a slide show with music using Proshow Gold and it struck me, I don’t know half of these people, never said more then “give us a smile, lick your lips” etc.
Never had a chance to actually interact with anyone and just talk, it seems to have been that way throughout my life, I was the one always taking the photos! |

I don't think it can be called an anti-social hobby. At weddings people just expect photos being taken, and there is usually a lot of pressure on the photographer to produce some quality photos. After all who wants naff photos of (hopefully) one of the most memorable days of their life?
Whilst everyone else is having a good time the poor photographer is working hard, a chance to socialise on the job is a rarity sometimes! |

I like wildlife photography partly because it gets me away from people. I spend about 40 hours a week at work talking to people a lot of that time then meet friends outside as well. People relax in different ways, for me I like to get lost somewhere away from people.

As Al Murray would say "we need hobbies to get us out of the house while they (the wives) do the hoovering". We would just be in the way otherwise.

Anti-social?
A chap I know has two young daughters, and on the week-end took them to the beach. As usual he had his camera and was taking photos of them building a sandcastle. He walked away to get closer to some sea-birds, as a keen twitcher, he wanted some close ups. Within 10 minutes the Police were there asking him why he had a camera on the beach, and why he was taking pictures of children. What is the world coming to?
Good job he didn't have his binoculars with him, as they are almost a permanent feature around his neck!! Hope the person who called them gets charged with wasting Police time
