My first car was one of these, a MKII Subaru Justy:

Based on the Suzuki Swift but with 4wd, there was literally insane amounts of traction and nothing to go wrong. Very cheap insurance and cheap to buy - they're pretty uncommon though.

It will be insurance that dictates the car I would think.

Depends on Age of the driver I guess, but just to give you an idea.

18 Year old step lad, lives in a top notch postcode, has a 2005 ford KA 1.3 cost to insure £2,230, he wanted his mums old Clio 2002 1.2, insurance price £6,000

Apparently, statistically, there are more crashes in Clio's than Ford KA's Guess what he his still driving

My tip is get some quotes first, pick some random cars from autotrader and put the reg numbers in a comparison site, before choosing a car, as insurance groups apparently dont mean anything these days.

if you buy her a ka make sure you have 12 months m.o.t with it as the ka rust bad and i mean bad, in my last job i welded up 3 ka's in order for them to pass an m.o.t and that was in my last week working there. they rust very badly on the inner sill, below the petrol cap and on the corners of the doors.

like i said if you decided on a ka then make sure it as a full m.o.t.

personally i dont think you can go wrong with a clio, they am cheep to tax and insure, pritty easy to repair and parts are cheep and you can pick them up cheep.
