what is needed is common sense - as soon as the powers that be realise that doing 80 mph wont cause you to spontainiously combust the better

We all regularly experience bad/dangerous driving on our roads, this more often than not dosen't invove excessive speed. We do not as responsible drivers have any authority to challenge these idiots therefore more police road traffic patrols are needed to replace the modern "lazy" way of policing the roads using cameras.

If cameras had been used as originally intended to purely moniter accident blackspots they would have been a useful and accepted tool.Instead they have been hijacked by government and used to blanket the country as a revinue raiser under the guise of safety. What is needed is more police traffic officers.
Especially when the whole point of all this was to save lives and rescue people from themselves, isnt this what they kept telling us?

Now somehow it seems our lives aren't worth saving when it might cost them a few bob or they don't get the benefit, so surely they can now openly change the name of the 'camera partnership' to 'yes we are screwing you'

That is what really gets my goat with the council, they preach on about this and that and put signs up saying 'you're an idiot', 'it's all your fault' and 'I told you so', under the not very good disguise of it being for my benefit.

It's not so much being told lies, but when they expect you to believe it...

If the Gatsos went and they were worried about losing revenue why not get some money back on a three level driving test.
Most people that pass a test carry on for most of their lives without a thought of improving their driving.
How about:-
Stage one. Pass this test and drive within the indicated limit.

Stage two. Pass this more difficult test. ( Cost x pounds more ) and legally drive 10 mph faster, where it is safe to do so, above the indicated limit.

Stage three. Pass this much more difficult test ( Cost xxx pounds more ) and legally drive 20 mph faster, again where safe, above the indicated limit.

This would get right up the noses of the slower drivers and in many cases make them work hard to improve their skills to join their faster bretheren.

Ie Better skills---Less accidents.

The idea ( supposedly ) of the cameras is to make people more road aware and reduce accidents. This scheme would do the same thing but by improving drivers ability and not fining them.

The different grades of drivers would have special number plates the cameras could recognise and ignore if within the limit for that plate.

Also get the insurance companies to give vastly reduced rates for the better qualified drivers.

All of this would satisfy the governments need for cash and enormously improve the standard of driving on our roads.

All who agree say AYE.

OH !! PS. ALL 'in town' speeds would be only as indicated and no higher.
