Don't you believe it. My mrs got done at 6.30am on a sunday morning coming from work last year by one of these. Then a week later she got nicked in exactly the same spot at exactly the same time, for the same offence. 34 in a 30. And yep, i've told my mrs to stop lining their pockets.

The Problem is not that they don't make money it is that the money to put them up and keep them running comes from local authority and local police budgets BUT the revenue they generate goes straight to the treasury, the idea being that it is then given back in the central goverment grant.
In these times when the condems are telling all authorities "we are cutting your budget, you need to make savings." it is not suprising alot of them turn around and say "right-o pay for your own speed cameras." as said if they can come up with a system that just fires of fixed penalty tickets without involving anyone at the local level pretty sure the treasury will be rudding its hands with glee |

It is all a big con.
The cameras are being turned off and marketed as 'not viable' they are then going to be bought by ACPO. ACPO, being a 'private' company, do not have to disclose information, can you see where this is going.....

they should sell of the Gatsos to members of the public, think of the fun you could have with one in your garden, brick throwing competitions, shooting at them, painting them etc

That old chestnut!
The cameras are a one trick "revinue raising" pony.Yes they will catch you doing 34 in a 3O but will they detect someone drunk on the wrong side of the road smoking a spliff and half way onto the pavement but doing a legal 29mph in a 30? If cameras had been used as originally intended to purely moniter accident blackspots they would have been a useful and accepted tool.Instead they have been hijacked by government and used to blanket the country as a revinue raiser under the guise of safety. What is needed is more police traffic officers.
