Default F1 Halo or closed c0ckpit!

I see they're bringing in the "Halo" for next season. I think it looks ugly & not really fit for purpose, Are we going to see closed c0ckpits in the future o F1!
Mind you after seeing the McLaren version.......

Personally I'd far rather they adopted the halo, despite how ugly it looks. To me F1 should be about open top cars with the driver exposed to the elements and, while I appreciate the need to make the sport as safe as possible, a closed cockpit would just turn these machines into Le Mans cars without wings and headlights. Not the way to go.

As nice as that McLaren looks I agree F1 should be open cockpit & open wheel, How are the drivers in the pack going to cope with rain etc, are they going to install wipers on closed cockpit cars!

I wonder how long it taks the design team to start developing the Halo as an aerodynamic wing.

Neither for me, the sport is dangerous but the ethos will be lost if the Fia continue to meddle with the cars.
Safety is important but its debatable whether the halo would have prevented the death of Jules Bianci.

Having seen them in the flesh at Silverstone this weekend whatever solution they pick will look pretty disasterous. Red bull did have a concept which was a little of both but cosmetically i think looks a little better .Red Bull fairing

I just wish the FIA would do things properly. The reason these solutions looks so bad is that they're taped onto the top of cars not designed for them. Throw both ideas in the bin, redesign a set of rules to accommodate a closed cockpit. F1 has had closed cockpits in the past, its nothing really new.
