Default sold as seen

we bought a car for my wife on friday afternoon, from a main dealer but it was sold as seen due to being a px. today the engine management light came on, it could be nothing (plugs) or it could be a big job. Do motor traders have to supply some kind of warranty? she picked it up on friday at 6pm so its not like she's done a million miles in it.

You need to read up on the Sale of Goods Act. iirc sold as seen doesn't really mean much if the vehicle turns out not to be of merchantable quality...

I would agree, fit for purpose and all. "sold as seen". Buyer beware though.

Possibly depends on what price you paid and whether you signed an agreement "Sold as seen" on the invoice.

If you got it for a bargain price, this may have been that you agreed to buy it "warts & all"
There's no come back at all if a car is "sold as seen at an Auction" for instance.

i spoke to trading standards this morning, and "sold as seen" only covers things you can see, paintwork, trim etc and doesnt cover mechanicals, its also illegal for a motor trader to right sold as seen on a sales invoice to a member of the public as it is seen as trying to block your consumer rights. I'm trying the nice approach with that garage at the mo and if that fails trading standards are going to phone them.
