So too, the LGBT group. What on earth is BAME? Shouldn't there be an 'L' in there? Led a very sheltered life.

BAME stands for Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic.

Why does this group exist?

I'm not a big fan of exclusive groups. When I was at University (A London one), I was very much a minority. There were employee and University led support groups for minorities that were very much the majority at the institution that I didn't 'qualify' for support from. Discrimination is discrimination no matter how you cut it. University resources should be open to all.

I agree. The word Minority is a misnomer. Refers to the days when certain 'groups' were a tiny minority and needed a defender. Now it has come to mean an action group for the advancement of a section of the population who are deemed to be disadvantaged. This development does the members of such groups not many favours in that it helps engender resentment in others. All a bit sad really.

Agreed. Our union runs a black workers group and hold regular meetings. I am not excluded from these but would feel awkward attending one. If I tried to form a white workers group I would be out on my ear (and rightly so too). Why not just call it an equality for workers group? Equality should be for everyone

Political correctness:

A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a **** by the clean end.

There is a picture accompanying the email, and it shows a mixed race lady, along with a young mixed race girl of no more than eight years of age; they are apparently viewing something on a laptop computer and appear to be finding it extremely amusing as they are laughing.

A line in the text states "....Standards of Service are, how we're performing against them and the compensation we'll pay!"

I fail to see a connection, let alone a need to satisfy the PC brigade.

I suppose this is a rant, so be it.
I am confused,

Are you ranting about the issuing of the document and that there is no need for it, and its been issued for PC purposes?

Or the fact that a mixed race mother and daughter were used in the photo and you think that photo was chosen for PC purposes?

Or that the photo bears no relation to the document, (in which case, I cannot fathom the PC brigade comment, as thats a marketing error)

Anyway, if its the photo, as someone who creates this kind of marketing stuff, you do tend to go for what we call "generic" to try and appeal to the broadest sectors, and I suppose reflect society, this isn't done through some misguided sense of PC as you call it, its to make the document appeal to more people, particularly if you are selling stuff.

Also, don't think these photos are setup specifically for the task in hand, we get them from Stock Photo websites, and typically (and hopefully) you pick photos that relate the topic of the brochure or document.

Sounds like they missed the topic on this one though given the document title.
