I sincerely hope there was nothing 'nasty' in my post and wonder why you would follow it with that remark.

My intention was to attempt to explain how far the progress of political correctness has travelled and to ask what relevance the ethnicity of the actors had. Not in any way having a go at you or your post, merely trying to clarify what you mean.

I hope I conveyed my own view that, although the scene you describe was in no way less than natural, we may have in fact travelled down a blind alley on this subject and one that will end with a brick wall!

A line in the text states "....Standards of Service are, how we're performing against them and the compensation we'll pay!"
They were actually laughing at the performance against the published standards

There you go, some people have a different view on things and see it as an attack on them, or their group, or their culture, when the original meaning is misconstrued. So if I say "perhaps I should have written the post in Welsh", someone is going to get annoyed. There's your brick wall, and someone else will always try to finish the discussion, by shutting it down.

I too feel that political correctness has travelled rather too far in the last few decades, imho it's a consequence of the blame and claim society that we now live within.

Councils are obsessed with diversity. The one I work for advertises meetings for the following groups...but I don't seem to fit into any of them. Here is a quote from the staff intranet:

The dates and times of these are provided below:
  • Mental health group - Tuesday, 11 November, 2.00pm–4.00pm (Innovation Room)
  • Workers with a disability (existing disability group) - Thursday, 13 November, 2.00pm- 4.00pm (Rm 1.05)
  • Carers group - Tuesday, 18 November, 12.00pm–1.30pm (Rm 1.18 Selhurst)
  • LGBT group - Wednesday, 26 November, 12.00pm–1.30pm (Innovation Room)
  • BAME group- Thursday, 27 November – 12.00pm – 1.30pm (Rm 1.10 Heathfield)
Every staff group is championed by a diversity sponsor (see below) to ensure that your views and ideas are heard at the most senior levels in the council through the People Board.

Note, I am fully in support of equality, I just feel left out...

The Mental Health Group meeting in the Innovation Room says it all really.
So too, the LGBT group. What on earth is BAME? Shouldn't there be an 'L' in there? Led a very sheltered life.
