Advertising Standards?
Is it just me or do others think that the "compliance" with political correctness in advertising has gone too far?
The example that brought this to mind was an email I received this morning, from EON, promoting their new publication regarding "the Company's standards". There is a picture accompanying the email, and it shows a mixed race lady, along with a young mixed race girl of no more than eight years of age; they are apparently viewing something on a laptop computer and appear to be finding it extremely amusing as they are laughing. A line in the text states "....Standards of Service are, how we're performing against them and the compensation we'll pay!" I fail to see a connection, let alone a need to satisfy the PC brigade. I suppose this is a rant, so be it. |

I agree, most ads now show a selection from most race/creeds/colours or what have you .. the world gone mad.
What hacks me off is the forms that you are requested to fill in at times that have a multitude of races and ethnics and yet I still have to write under "other" - English - white. Wales,Scotland and NI are there but not England, I add the comment - I am not British I am English! I suppose this was a little rant also .... |

Loosely related...
I was round my mums and she was watching Coronation Street when a character was mugged in the street by a white guy, a black guy, an Asian and I'm sure there was another who might have been mixed race. It was good to know that street gangs are now integrated :p

My family comes from an Indian background and I often find it hilarious how there now has to be a representative from every continent in each TV advert . Just find it's a waste of time and totally pointless.
Also find it ridiculous how Halfords have to debadge any car they use in their advert, like all of a sudden we can't tell its a BMW 5 series or a Vauxhall Insignia from the badge not being there And the old 99.9% guarantees used in adverts, so and so cleaning product cleans 99.9% bacteria, this toothbrush cleans up to 99.9% of your teeth... what about the 0.1%? I want perfection |

I don't consider myself racist but I would like to call myself English, and there is very little opportunity to do that on paperwork, as said.
I know someone in law enforcement, and in their work, they find that 90% of the "villains" are Nigerian. Their regulations state they must have their "operating standards and guidelines" available for the "villains" to read, they are available in English (hurrah) and ..........Welsh!, yes Welsh - I have never come across any Welsh Man who cannot read English, more the other way round, and the Nigerians? if they cannot read and understand English, they have to wait for an interpreter. |

Or a Chinese person . Or someone with downs. Political correctness is starting to get on my mammery glands . And please stop saying this contains flash photography ( just print it on the screen). |

The single issue lobbyists have had such a free run at this that it's gone too far, although some movement from old fashioned attitudes was necessary. Now, companies err on the side of over the top safety from lunatics taking them to court because they are likely to feign offence.
In the example the OP gives, presumably the child was the daughter of the adult. So why would the similar ethnicity warrant question?

My post is not meant to generate any nasty comments, but to illustrate how far down the "silly road" (for the benefit of those with fingers poised) we have gone, which is my own opinion. |
