With the latest Government figures for costings on Secondary education per pupil.
It is over £500 a year cheaper at the majority of Private Schools to educate a Scholar/Pupil/Student or whatever.
So where is the money being spent and why if their figures are correct are we still getting awful results.
Can't all be the Parents fault surely?

Most of the Pupils that leave Private School and go to mainstream do so either because their not good enough or have Financial problems.

The money is / was being wasted on the ridiculous national testing schemes that have failed so miserably to do anything useful, as well as on multiple new 'initiatives' that get dumped on schools. Bear in mind that the amount of funding per student varies between counties and schools, eg. Derbyshire has the third lowest rate of funding per student in the country. For this reason and given annual fees for private schools are usually many thousands, I seriously doubt the discrepancy is only £500 between state and private. Latest figures:

Average costs private education UK 2007-2008 - £9,627 (Info from Halifax report http://www.financedaily.co.uk/News/P...ctFew_582.html)
Average costs state education UK 2007-2008 - £5,220 (Info from Gov DCSF website http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/rsgateway/DB/...mDAR020708.pdf)

So, private costs are heading for double that of state education costs.

I would also take issue with your comments on the reasons students leave private school....for instance, there are private schools for the 4-13 year olds but nothing of any quality for secondary or above within 40 miles of here. Equally, if your local Secondary is considered to be 'outstanding' people tend to want to use it....albeit, in this case, it is selective up to a point.
