Default How to combine 2 video files into 1

I have 2 short mp4 video files that I'd like to combine/stich/merge together to make 1 "long" video.

what simple free program's can I use?

Has anyone used VLC to do this? If you have, how did you do it. Tried Google searches but none I have tried have worked.

thank you. I don't seem to have this or windows essentials installed. worse I can only seem to find windows 8.1 security essentials on Microsoft's web site.

even this does not have a link to down load it
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ows-essentials

can you point me to a link to down load windows essentials for windows 8.1?

Think that is more a video format converter than an editing suite.

It's a pity that Microsoft has stopped support of essentials and live as Windows Movie Maker would have been perfect for what you want to do, however it is available as a download from:-

http://www.windows-movie-maker.org/

Just be aware it could well bring some unwanted software with it so do a virus scan if you decide to download it.

There's also open source software that may be suitable:-

http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/

Not tried it myself as I use Sony Vegas.

Confirm that your hardware is capable of running the software:-

http://www.windows-movie-maker.org/w...vie-maker.html

The error code you are getting:-

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...b-fa90eabccb48

And if all fails ask the question here:-

EDIT: Fired my win7 laptop up and tried the "Live" version of Movie Maker with MP4 format without issue, I'd suggest an email to their support may be the best way to resolve your problems.

EDIT2: Downloaded the trial of Windows Movie Maker 2016 to my win10 laptop this morning, I'm not getting the issues you've experienced:-

For information the video format I've used so far with WMM is AVCHD and MP4

Tbh lost me as well, I think it's an issue with the video codec's causing the error code .

If you want to put the video files on a memory card and send it to me I'll gladly stitch them together for you, drop me a pm if you want to organise it.

Trust you sorted out your TV.
