My sentiments exactly. My relatives hung their keys up in their early sixties. It's inspiring to hear so many more mature owners are still enjoying being behind the wheel. Long may that continue!

Having watched 100 year old drivers last night...

Without wishing to offend any of the, let's say, more senior drivers out there, I would like to ask their opinion on compulsory 'driving assessments' for those of a certain age. Which, as you have to reapply for your driving licence after age 70 (every 3 years) it seems logical would take place at that application and any subsequent applications.

Nothing as stringent as a normal driving test of course, just something along the lines of an eyesight test and a bit of a drive round to test competence and road safety, as much for the senior driver as everyone else.

Please don't take me wrong, I hope to god that I'm still driving in my 70's & beyond, I just wondered what peoples thoughts were on the matter.

Great idea, but how about annual driving tests for the under 50's too. Most of them seem to think the road is a race track, and accidents are always caused by other people. :-)

Never mind the OAP's its far younger drivers you are most at risk from, as an ex driving instructor I lost count of middle aged drivers who appear proud to say "Don't think I would pass these days, too many bad habits and haven't read the Highway Code since I did pass in 1970/1980 etc."

We have seen lots of threads asking who the youngest driver is on the forum, but do we know who the oldest driver is?
(I would love to and hope to still be driving at 80!!)
Why stop at 80 ? I didnt .
