Without wishing to offend any of the, let's say, more senior drivers out there, I would like to ask their opinion on compulsory 'driving assessments' for those of a certain age. Which, as you have to reapply for your driving licence after age 70 (every 3 years) it seems logical would take place at that application and any subsequent applications.

Nothing as stringent as a normal driving test of course, just something along the lines of an eyesight test and a bit of a drive round to test competence and road safety, as much for the senior driver as everyone else.

Please don't take me wrong, I hope to god that I'm still driving in my 70's & beyond, I just wondered what peoples thoughts were on the matter.

and looking at accident and death statistics also extend this to drivers between 17 and 25 who are much more likely to kill somebody

Can't argue with that Dave. There is so much more that should be taught to the youngsters when they first pass their test.

At least an hours compulsory motorway lesson (post test) for a start!
