Had a succession of 6 dogs, one at a time, but when the last one died on New Years Eve 2005, I decided that was enough. Still miss them all, but fortunately they all died naturally before needing to be put to sleep. That must be the hardest, yet the most compassionate decision. I feel for you.

On reflection I would have rather my late cat had passed away peacefully in his sleep. Having to say the words put to sleep to the vet was utterly heartbreaking, but compassion was the only option. I noted the time that she injected him, and seven minutes later when I said is that it? I mark those exact times on every anniversary of his passing. and will every year until the day that we are together again. Last edited by Annfield-East; 1st January 2021 at 12:14.. Debs and you have our deepest sympathy Andy, its incredibly hard losing a pet. We've lost two dogs, the only consolation is neither had to involve the vet. Milka (Poodle) was over 18, he passed away in his own bed during the night, the other, Abbey (Maltese/Pekingese cross) was nearly 16, she passed away in my arms as I was drying her after a bath, suspect her heart gave out. We couldn't be without a dogs though and never only one, current "family" is two Shih Tzus and a Shih Tzu/Pug cross.
