Water cooled EGR
How come some diesel R75's have a water cooled EGR but not all? What are the real world advantages a water cooled EGR?
I wish to keep my EGR unit working for it contributes to a quicker warm up, and I mainly drive short journeys. I understand this means from time to time I will have to clean the inlet manifold etc. |

Not sure I have ever seen a water cooled one? Got any pics?
Outside temp 45f today. (Raining at the time). From getting in my car, starting the engine, turning on my FBH (I have a remote) my heater started producing warm air when I got stopped at the 3rd set of traffic lights. Approx distance a mile, approx time taken 3 maybe 4 mins? I don't think that's bad.. My ZX takes longer... ... |

I'm fairly sure they are all water cooler
I also don't think the EGR helps warm the engine up - at very low temperatures (-10°C or lower iirc) it stays open the whole time to increase temps but in normal conditions and with normal opening it should actually reduce combustion temps. |

Egr
I have seen one on an MGZT auto in a scrapyard. Also parts are listed on the data CD. With R220D early ones had no water cooled EGR late & ZR all had one fitted.
Water cooled EGR makes re-circled gases much cooler and imparts heat to water system. Why only some 75's have it?? Is it not good for all?? |

It's the Other Way Round
Not so much that the EGR is cooled, rather that the EGR is used to warm the coolant up quicker after a cold start.

It seems totally random from the 100's of M47's I've seen !!
Some low spec early models had the jacket fitted On the other hand some higher spec cars early or late didn't have it fitted. Total mystery
