Amazon Autorip
Just bought two CDs from Amazon for my nephew's birthday (from his Wishlist - marvellous idea!)
Anyway, I noticed that when they were being viewed it said that they came with "Autorip". Never heard of this before, but looked it up on their site and it seems that if you buy a physical CD from them, they give you the mp3 version free! Got to wonder if this will hit their mp3 album sales, but sure that they must have thought of that. Anyway, an extra feature of this is that it also gives you mp3 copies of everything you've bought from them for the last 10 years, and does this automatically when you log into your cloud storage with them. So, after a short wait, I've ended up with 1242 across 102 albums which I guess I can access now from wherever I like! (you can download them too, although I'm not sure how to get them out of the Amazon format) Thought I'd share this!

I heard about this on the local radio, reported as a method for Amazon to capture sales from iTunes.
Good luck to them. . About 5 years ago, I was bought an iPod as a present, and have been given lots of iTunes vouchers as gifts since then. Now, I now have a load of music, that has been bought and paid for, that I can't listen to on other devices Proper CDs and MP3 is the way to go

TBH, this is the way I go - real, physical media in my hand/in the CD rack (688 albums and counting!) and rip them to mp3 to play via the HDD plugged into the back of my car headunit, and also, when the quality is less important than the quantity, streamed from my laptop to my Denon Network Player. When I want to properly listen to some music, the CD comes out, although it must be said that I can't really tell the difference between this and the mp3's as I always rip them at the highest rate!

also, FLAC is the way to go not mp3, mp3 is a lossy format, FLAC is lossless and the best quality (file sizes show that, average 30mb vs 4mb mp3) Last edited by tareim; 3rd July 2013 at 10:26.. Reason: missed out some info |
