1.8T tourer- noisy new exhaust
Purchased because I enjoyed the quiet comfort of the model, the back box fell off and I ordered through my local garage a new box. The upshot has been it is much more noisy than before. The garage tell me to wait until it cokes up which will muffle the sound but I feel there is something more fundamental at fault. The new box does not look as large and is a different shape to that which it replaced. Does anyone have experience or advice to offer?

As I see it, a quiet system is an expensive system. Compare the OEM bits with typical aftermarket alternatives on price. Few if any aftermarket silencers are as well made or as well damped as the ones fitted at the factory. I personally doubt that there is an aftermarket system to match the original. In most cases, the stainless steel designs are even louder.
Oh, and the garage is talking rubbish. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 28th January 2019 at 18:00.. |

The make of exhaust to get is Klarius, they are not cheap but in my estimation are very good. I have one on my CDTi Tourer. I'm waiting for the thing to drop off so I can replace with a stainless steel exhaust but after 5 years it still hasn't happened.

As I understand it, the exhausts used by MGR were from Bosal.
But it would be nice to have someone who knows confirm it. TC |

I have a klarius backbox on my 1800 petrol zt. I don't have any issues with it. Nice and quiet.
