Default The great OAT hunt.

Realised i was a bit low on coolant yesterday afternoon amd my stock in the shed had run out. I was too late for Halfords or any of the specialist motor shops so set out on a tour of the local petrol stations.

Tried 7 of them in total, all of which stocked antifreeze but no sign of any OAT, every one had blue antifreeze.

Why is it so hard to find?

Thanks, I will stock up next time im in town.

I wonder why the petrol stations dont keep it in stock though? Is it quite rare for cars to use OAT.

Your local Vauxhall dealer is cheap for this product.

Drain out all your oat, flush out system with water and refill with blue antifreeze would be my advice.

Oh, and find out where your coolant is disappearing to.

As Pab states, get some from you local Vauxhall Dealership - I use Picador where you can pick this up for about £3.00/Litre...

Weirdly The Range has Red OAT 1 litre concentrate for £2.99 or where I get mine from Eurocarparts for just over £3 per litre concentrate.

I usually have to top it up every couple of months (sooner if ive done a lot of miles) and its rarely more than about 250ml, so its not exactly gushing out. Its been like that since ive had it.

I have been planning to do a coolant flush as its not had one for 4 years that i know of.
So are there no ill effects to swapping to blue?

Not really. Just means changing it more often.

Comma G30 is red OAT, and available at many supermarkets and motor factors. I emailed Comma and they confirmed it doesn't have 2-EHA, which is the thing that caused all the issues with GM and Dexcool and degrading silicone etc.

Its good stuff.
