Default "Recycling" at the council Tip

My alternative "Recycling" at the Council Tip.

Does anybody else have this problem ... Did 2 runs to the Council Tip with loads of stuff that won't compost / old lawn mower (stripped of anything useful) / fluorescent tubes and CFLs etc.

Get home and go into kitchen for a cuppa. "Well?" the good lady says in a very inquiring tone.

"A perfect Black & Decker workmate then a nice metal sieve" is my reply. My problem is I just can't go to the tip without seeing something useful that somebody is just about to launch into the appropriate skip. I'm just amazed at what folks throw away.

"Are you chucking that? - Can I have it then" usually gets a "Help yourself"

Last week it was one of those ladder standoff wall brackets!

Just sold the workmate to somebody at allotments for a tenner to go towards some fresh seeds. Anybody else get any bargains this way?

Yes I once got a similar trade off, I off loaded my wife for a dishwasher, it does a better job of washing up, is a lot quieter and doesn't tell me how to drive.
PS for any of our female club members, this is a joke.

I tend to hoard stuff anyway so not too much makes it to the tip. I've returned with a few useful items over time. Biggest downfall of the tip is the segregation of rubbish. I'm all for recycling but our local tip takes it to the enth degree. I now just pay a tenner and council collect five items. Sorted

I am the opposite I hate clutter and will tip anything thats not bolted down.

Its not something I like about myself, but "stuff" drives me insane.

But you never know when it will be useful. I'll strip down an old washing machine just for the screws, motors etc. Just cannot bear to throw out potentially useful stuff! Old wood is one of my favourites. Well seasoned and as a keen woodworker this is pure gold. Old scaffold boards make wonderful chunky distressed furniture. I have made quite a few trunks from these and with black iron fittings look pleasantly aged.
