1.8T Boost Controller Hose Size?
Hi all
think i need to replace the hoses running from the turbo to the boost control solenoid (harsh shifting at medium revs/turbo kicking in at 2500 like a train and whistling), providing the solenoid itself isnt cream-crackered of course! Just wondering what size hose to use. On here it seems most people have gone with 3mm stuff off fleabay, but i wanted to pick some up locally tomorrow and the only silicone hose i can get nearby is in 4mm... Would this make any difference? would that result in slight overboosting due to taking longer to reach solenoid trip pressure as the hose is wider? or could i get away with it... |

If you use hose with a bore much larger than the original, the turbo response will be adversely affected. Only use the same bore, whatever that is.

And be careful on the type of hose, it needs to be semi rigid as MG Tom has identified on a post of mine, floppy silicone is no good as the vacuum cause the hose to collapse and give a stuttering effect!

Yes, the originals are semi-rigid plastic that pushes into rubber connectors. It's too rigid to push directly over the metal nozzles.
