Default Whine under bonnet

Long story short, a couple of weeks ago I had one of those annoying can I hear it can't I noises.
This morning the car has a whine you can't miss from inside, it seemed to come from the right side of the engine compartment and linked to the engine speed, faster engine-higher pitched whine, going up the gears the pitch dropped as the engine revs dropped then on acceleration up goes the whine again in all the gears, bonnet up the sound is from the front of the engine, pump, alternator, belts etc end, there is also a funny smell, not oil, diesel or rubbery (belt, hoses) only way I can describe it is electrical, all the fluid levels seem Ok. I had a new alternator fitted in February.

It does not matter if the clutch pedal is down or up.

In the Garage tomorrow, fingers crossed

I know you said right hand side, but could it be the under bonnet fuel pump??

Alternator would be my guess

You could join the AA with parts and labour cover.

Had a new one fitted in February (well, a rebuild) so if it was that I recon they would replace it (he says hopefully)

I dropped it off at lunchtime, will let you know when I do.

My car used to have a whine under the bonnet.
Then I decided to let my wife sit inside the car.
Now, whine inside the car.
Usually, it sounds like "Slow down....not so fast....there's a camera, you know....etc, etc, etc".
Last week I even had to disable the overspeed warning on my TomTom. First the TomTom lady nagged me rapidly followed by you-know-who.
I give up.
I am not really a speeder, honestly. But it is so easy to do around 73 on a smooth part of the motorway unless you are CONSTANTLY watching the speedo.

I have to admit, when I first had the car (had it since 06) you could easily let it run away with you, especially on Motorways, but cruise control solved that one

Got the call from the Garage this morning, failed Alternator, so it's a replacement job and no cost to me

I think my first project on return of the car will be putting a sound system in the boot.
