Default VDO 413X replaced M3 100

I have just outed an M3 100 head that continually required a code every time it was turned on (nothing new there it seems) and lost all information.
On connecting the VDO 413X and putting in the code the radio tuner showed it was finding stations and the CD player gobbled up the CD and made appropriate noises and steering wheel control worked but no sound, as though the amplifier was inhibited. I fiddle around with plugs and found that if I removed the 8 pin part of the uppermost plug ( the three coloured job) the radio and CD player all worked as they should except no 6 CD changer. The 8 pin bit of the upper plug goes to the 6 CD changer in the boot I believe. Is the 6 cd changer solely suited to the Iovox M3 100? Is there a different unit for the VDO? Can any one help Please
