Question OE Xenon dipped beam fail

Just noticed this today from the error message on the IPK. Offside dipped beam has failed (typical as the MOT is looming!). When switched on there is a brief (ie about a second) light from the burner then nothing. The wiring is ok as I protected it from chaffing some years ago. Now has anyone had this before and is it simply time for new bulbs from Matt or could it be the ballast that’s gone?

After fifteen years of service, I reckon a HID failure can be readily excused. I suppose it could be a failure of the balast unit, but you'll have to swap the burners round to test it. Usual advice is to replace HID burners in pairs.

Ah! Just looked on Rimmers, igniter not available and if you want to OE then there’s not much difference between ballast and bulb, both well over £100

Normally it's just the bulb, one of mine went and they looked to be several years old.
You have to take the bumper off to replace Xenon bulbs and always replace both.
I had 600k bulbs fitted as they are a pure white light, the difference is amazing.

My MOT was due as well, I informed the garage who look after my car and they MOT'd it first then did the service and replaced the bulbs for me.

It's a stupid design that you have to remove the bumper.
