In the good old days of mechanical door locks just a pouring of hot water (not inside) would sort it out......

I was once stuck at Bristol Airport after I had flown back from Spain, my car was buried under a load of snow.
It took me a couple of hours to get the snow off along with trying to get the door lock and boot lock to give in on my Cavalier.
Didn't have any hot water, only a couple of lighters, absolute nightmare it was.

Sorry mate, but you don’t make sense you are willing to spray warm water over the locks but will not spray a water repellent into them in case the electrics get knackered.

Don’t worry guys, no electrics anywhere near the key barrel in the drivers door.

Silicone spray in to the key aperture, the open all doors & spray into the door locks them selves, use the little straw that comes with it to get right into the locks is can also be sprayed onto the rubber seals round the doors and the door frames less chance on the door sticking once the locks open.

as jules says water expands in freezing conditions also warm or hot water freezes quicker because it contains less oxygen in it

WD40 may disperse the water but, if I understand it correctly, it will also disperse the lubricating grease from the lock workings.

As a preventative, I use a lithium or white grease spray, using the red straw (as Arctic describes) to get right into the key aperture. I also spray it around and into the door close mechanism - not sure if it's helping much there but hopefully not hurting.
