Don't forget plug gaps are critical on these cars .... Mine was serviced by Halfrauds by the previous owner about a month before I bought it ... New plugs gapped to 1.1mm and the car was undrivable on hard acceleration ... Massive misfire almost like someone was switching the ignition off for a second ... I didn't think anything of it regarding the plugs as they where new ... Spent a couple of days digging around buying and replacing all the turbo vac pipes etc ... Made no difference ... Then spotted a post regarding plug gap size so I checked mine ,as stated above 1.1 mm so I reset them to 0.7 mm and the car was perfect . Much better and no misfire / stutter what ever you want to call it

This is sooo true. I had a really bad misfire on hard acceleration and associated flashing of the engine management light. Put new coil packs in from euro car parts along with new plugs and leads. Still the problem remained. Plugs were gapped at 0.8mm. After reading up on the issue I regapped the plugs to 0.6mm and boom - sweet as a nut. Some people have gone as low as 0.5mm but this is a common problem on the 1.8t but easily fixed if you know how..

I had the same priblem as you and it turnd out to be the simplest of things : corrosion on top of a
spark plug . Always check the free to fix stuff first. BTW I gap mine with credit card or similar. They are all the same thickness at .73mm .works fine for me

e :-)

Genuine ones from Rimmers are surprisingly cheap at £30 each.

I have the genuine Beru items in my Shop for £34.99 inc P+P - as fitted at the factory.
Part number NEC000120 - Coil Pack - Late K Series (non VVC)
Edit: Just dropped the price down from £39.99 to £34.99, as wholesale has dropped slightly. Bargain now!

The postage is the killer - if I remember correctly it'd be about £7 on these.
