But I have a distinct recollection that you have done this on a couple of occasions previously - as in spent loads on a car, and then sold it once all was fixed only to buy another with issues and do the same again...???

I believe there are ZT's/75's out there that ARE good, and WILL give you almost carefree ownership - providing you are prepared to pay for it in the first place.....

I think in the end, and generally most of the time, you get what you pay for.

You probably have the right person Bill. After all, you were the guy who liked to point out the apparent "nice profit" I made on the 1 car even posted it on the for sale thread?!?!? But your not the kind of guy who likes to stir things up are you

I bought a diesel saloon and spent a fair bit adding mods and fixing little bits and bobs. Consequently I realised that at that time I could not do without an estate. So I sold it and just about got my money back. That was the one you thought was a nice little earner

I have bought a couple that I wanted to save from the heap, they have gone into pastures new now, rather than the scrap heap that they were destined for.

This car was purchased as a "good car". From a reliable source, Turned out it was not the case and I got lumbered with all it's issues.

And a very appreciated offer that

However, having owned every engine variant bar the V8, I already know what others are like. As others have said, for day to day running the diesel is the much better choice overall IMHO

Many thanks for the offer though mate

Another brand, In my mind I could do a lot worse!! lol.

I have never had a car that's given me as much grief as this one

I don't make a habit of buying lemons and let my guard down with this one for reasons I shall not go into.

This car could fund a very decent V6 with everything sorted. It a diesel that may require a little TLC, but nothing beyond what I could do myself.

Or maybe something completely different

As much as I like this cars, they are not the only ones in the planet. A lot if the good feeling about owning one comes from being a member of this community and posting on these boards.

I maintain that as far a community's go, this is the best I have ever known for a car club. I have made some VERY good friends on here that I will remain friends with long after any ownership ends.

Time will tell I suppose. I have set myself a timescale to decide the cars future.
I know nobody likes buying a lemon, I have back in 1989, I bought a brand new Mini and it spent more times in the garage in the first 6 months than it did on the road.
What didn't help was the incompetence of the Rover Garage (sorry if that offends some, but you wouldn't believe what they did or didn't do)
Giving me the car back with no water/antifreeze in the radiator.
No oil in the SU Carb, the list goes on.
Anyway eventually I got the car sorted out, then had it for just over 3 years with no more issues and sold it.
There were times I just wanted to have the car crushed into a cube because I was that hacked off.

I just thought that a week driving around in a Rover oil-burner might re-generate the love of a 1.8T MG

If its running well then I say get it remapped and enjoy it. All the big stuff is done, enjoy the fruits of your labour and keep it for a while. Yes you understandably have beef with the previous owner, either that or you are seriously unlucky, but its done now, put it to bed. The car is sorted. Holding a grudge isn't good for the soul.

What else can you buy for £1500? Every time I look at selling mine for something else I realise we really have got it good with our cars.

I too have spent a ridiculous amount of money on mine getting it tip top, and too felt conned by the previous owner, but I've persevered and now I can honestly say I love the car.

My family car is a 56 plate Galaxy 1.8TDCi. I've just spent £2800 having one problem after another sorted... If I'd known it was going to be that much from the outset I would have sold it as faulty and moved on, but now its done it really does drive lovely and I'm glad I stuck with it.

On your first point, no, I'm not. I just tell things how they are, or how I see them - I'm afraid I for one see nothing wrong with that, nor with making a bit of profit come to that either. I sincerely hope I can make a healthy profit if and when I sell mine. (Of which I doubt!).......

On the other points I'm glads to see that I wasn't far wrong, and sorry that you got caught with this last one - it's happened to me and it's not nice, not nice at all!

The thing is, we are all biased here and do our best to encourage each other to stick with the brand, that's not a bad thing.

However, I've been in such a situation (perhaps different circumstances as we all have) but if you're at the point of disillusionment then it's time to let it go. When I sold off the POS concerned it was such a relief to see it disappear over the hill. The guy we sold it to had a vehicle with a lot of new bits and pieces that we'd fixed along the way, but it was a car that brought no joy to us, we just reached the point of wanting it out of our lives.

I say to the OP move on and just be watchful that emotion doesn't rule your next decision.

I don't think 'Anyone' could fail to feel the love for a sorted 1.8T engine

Apart from those who have never experienced it and who continue to repeat the same old myth's about reliability.

Not aimed at you Peter btw

I would agree. You either get your existing car up to scratch, whatever the cost, or buy a good manual CDT, change your 'goodies' over from your current car, then sell it.

All cars cost money one way or the other and when it is a secondhand car, you probably have to put right a previous owner's failings. However, once sorted, with help from the specialists on here, you will have a good car, that will last for years with a bit of regular maintenance.

You will get a better car for the money, if you opt for a lower spec model (less desirable).
