OK, I have tried reading up about the PRT on the many threads on here.

I cannot get a straight answer to the following.

I have a buff PRT with a 92 degree stat inside (as stamped on the metal insides)

Following HGF, is it wise to replace it (it was not the cause), or just leave it alone?

I tested the PRT with boiling water, and it did indeed open. This can be seen when it is fitted by monitoring the coolant temperature, and appears to be working properly.

One side of the PRT had limescale like residue in, the other side had oil contamination. I have cleaned this, should I be concerned? There was oil in the water as a result of HGF

The car was left to idle for about 20 minutes, and maintained a temperature of between 92 and 96 degrees, which I understand is right, so am I best leaving it well alone?

Sounds like its working as it should, so I'd leave it be.

That's interesting. The Wiki literature always said the buff one was set at 88C. Mine had the buff one from new and the engine always ran in the upper 90s. The relief valve opened at 2000 rpm on the dot.

I swapped it for the black one out of interest. This is said to be an 82C stat with a stiff relief spring. The engine runs 10C lower than before and I have yet to see the relief valve operating. One article I read said the spring's too hard to actually open by pump pressure. This fits with my tests.

I still have the buff one on the shelf so I'll have a look inside and see what it says.

I read your post on this, which one did you stick with?

The one fitted to my car is definitely a buff 92 degree, I knew to look inside from reading old posts.

I would like it to run cooler, my old 1.8 NASP didn't have a prt and ran at about 80 degrees. I was much more comfortable with that. Or is it detrimental to run at a lower temperature?

If you do decide to run lower, the 82 degree items I supply seem to hold between 82-85 from what I've read.

Not for £19.99
They're decent kit though, none of this Chinese rubbish. Usually Calorstat/Vernet.
