Default worth doing water pump whilst head is off ?

All stripped down now with old head off as well as manifolds etc.
Thought it might be worth chucking on a new water pump whilst it's an easy access job ? Worth doing ? 1.8T btw.

i made the mistake of thinking 'it was fine when i removed the head, so why replace it? ' on my 620ti.

2 days later after all the hard work of fitting new head gasket + cambelt as soon as i turned the key the water pump was howling !

They are fairly cheap for the K-Series

Get a quality item too, lots of cheap **** around. I'd be tempted to do the front crankshaft oil seal too, and obviously you'll be fitting new ones for the cams ;}

Thermostat housing seals are worth doing, but yours is a prt so just check there is a blank thermostat fitted. The housings are usually fine so I wouldn't worry about that.

Are you upgrading the clutch mate?

As said change the water pump, seen lots of them leak through no reason other than the coolant strength was changed after a coolant replacement. Much easier to do with the head off

my rule on any car for any part is, if it's hard to get to and not been done in the last year then replace it when you can get easy access. So replace the pump.

Replace the lot in one go, valve stem oil seals as well, reseat the valves. Its just as easy to do it all in one go.

it's a brand new big valve head with everything new

Just got the sandblasting cabinet in action for it's first outing on the cam cover and inlet manifold. mmmmmm, smooth as a baby's bum ready for powder coating.
