Default So thats where my coolant has been going...

Started to smell coolant when the engine was warm. Looking from above I could see some pink staining down the back of the block. To get a better view I reached around with a camera and this was the result.

Judging by the deposits I'm guessing it's been leaking for a while although the car has only been losing less than 20ml coolant per week...

Just ordered a new set of seals (2x O Rings and the main thermostat seal).

I'm hoping that its a relatively straight forward job to replace the seals on the thermostat housing as I am a bit of a mechanical numpty (I did manage to replace my inlet mainifold gasket though).

Are any special tools required?

Many thanks in advance

Easy job! Don't forget to bleed the cooling system properly afterwards

You should have ordered the complete assembly as it does not cost much. The non genuine version sold by Rimmers is actually genuine but not in Rover box.

I think you will find the housing is distorted, and will not provide enough compression on oring, unless the oring has been fitted incorrectly.

Silicon grease or perhaps vaseline for reassembly will help the oring insertion, and stop it from rolling which can also lead to leaks.

Good for 60k / 6 years then should be replaced along with the associated pipes. My V6 has never leaked.
