Intermittent faults are always difficult to pin down.

O.K. so you have fuel pressure now, but earlier you reported a "dribble" from the schrader valve. Was that detected immediately after turning the key to 'ignition on' or during cranking?

the fuel from the valve seems to squirt initially then become less forceful . havent tried checking while cranking as hadnt thought about it till now .

it seems to be that once the car has warmed up it has to be completely cooled before it will start again .
11:30pm start and drove no problem
2:30pm following day also started and drove fine .
4:30pm after a 30 minute drive no start .
havent been back to it yet but will be trying again at 23:30pm for work tonight

Usually a car that will not start when warm has a faulty cam sensor

I suspect you have a sticky valve/lifter. What is the service history like? What oil is used? Have you tried a compression test?

I'd try a bottle of Wynns lifter treatment.

I believe that folk remove it and place it in the fridge/freezer for a while. Refit and if the engine starts, it suggests that the sensor is breaking down with the heat from the engine and needs replacing.

Try Crank shaft sensor I have just had work done on my engine and it failed after 3 days ( I fueled up at the local filling station drove 50 ft and it cut out) putting it on the computer came up with the error. it is directly below the air filter a pig to get at and costs about 40 quid.

Gordon,

If the crankshaft sensor fails then the fuel pump won't run. The OP says that his fuel pump is running. There's also his evidence that the fault only occurs when the engine is warm. As Stocktake has said, the camshaft position sensor has been found to be the culprit in these conditions.

Thanks to everyone who is trying to help it is all appreciated very much . The car will start first time every time it will also start if left for a short period ie 10 mins is the most i have tested at moment however if left for an hour or so it will not start untill completely cold again i have been leaving it till the following day . The fuel pump can be heard when ignition on 2 and when cranking there us a picture of the in tank pump earlier in the thread . The car has only ever stalled once and that was because i put in 3rd by mistake when pulling away . Other than that the car seems to run well it is losing water but i am presuming that is a separate issue and always carry a jerry can of water in the boot . I will attemp to get the compression tested and post results asap .

How can the camshaft position sensor be tested and is it a major job to fix if needed ?

I know i am a pain in the **** but i really appreciate EVERYBODIES input whether it has been discounted earlier or not the time and effort you are ALL putting in is a godsend as i dont know what i would do without these ideas as i dont have the money for a mechie to do all this for me at the moment

thankyou everyone

Going by your last post it is most probably the cam sensor. I think I have one in the shed I could send you for testing, its just under the cam cover, so 3 8mm bolts and you are in, another 8mm bolt holds the sensor in place.

I'll have a look when I get home.
