Default Tourer rear wiper issues

Could someone let me know what the common fail points for the rear wiper on a Tourer please. Not long had the car and it doesn't work.
Checked the fuse, as I was under there sorting the sunroof drain at the weekend, and that's OK.
Next plan is to strip the arm mechanism off the rear screen and clean up as I've read they can seize.
I've not checked power to the motor yet.
I'd like to think the stalk is working as the washer part works fine - I know, a massive assumption.

I'm guessing that you can't operate the motor with the rear screen up and the interlock catch in place.
Any other pointers I could do with being aware of? TIA

Hi Mike.
Have you tried the rear wiper on the stalk, it's on a ring which you need to turn either intermittent or continually.

You can see in these ebay photo below.

Hi Steve
Tried that and nothing happens to the wiper arm when rotating that switch. Can't even hear if the motor is trying to turn. The washer function works at both ends of the switch travel so, massive assumption, the switch appears to be working.

I'll get around and check for voltage at the motor and also clean out the mechanism at some point in the next couple of weeks.

I'm hoping it's either a seized arm or someone's disconnected the motor rather than a wiring fault.

Does the rear window hatch work?
If that doesn't work either, I would be checking the wiring near the boot hinge.

Rear hatch works just fine and from what I can see, the cable trunking looks OK. At some point I'm going to strip out the tailgate trim, see if it's just the case that someone has unplugged the wiring, and then strip down the mechanism on the rear screen to see if that's gummed up.
After that, I guess I'll have to check into electrical continuity to see if the feed is getting through.

I have found on my Tourer that the spindle from the motor had become seized with crud. I have solved it by gaining access to the spindle and then giving it a good clean.

I'm going to be stripping that bit out to check the state of it and liberally dousing it with penetrating oil at some point. Is the spindle you mention the bit attached to the screen or the part above the motor in the body of the tailgate?

The wiper arm should move when you lift the tailgate glass. If it does not, as in my case, the wiper asm in the glass needs cleaning/lubricating.

That narrows it down - mine won't budge. I think spanner time could be imminent!
