Air Con O Rings
Hi all.
After rebuilding my 3 speed cooling fan - which now works on all speeds - I'm wondering about the O rings on the Air Con where it connects on the driver's side of the rad. I'll be getting new rings and they need to be lubed for reassembly. RAVE 82-11 #8. Now, RAVE says "clean refrigerant oil" but a bit of reading around the subject has left me baffled. Some say absolutely not refrigerant oil, some say silicon oil, some mineral oil and about the only one I haven't found is snake oil . There's something called Nylog Blue which crops up regularly https://www.derbyshire-refrigeration...hread-sealant/ Obviously I only need a very small amount. Some advice from the great and good would be appreciated. TIA. |

Do you think it's likely that the seals specifically for an air conditioning system would be made from a material which isn't compatible with its oil and furthermore that MG Rover would then deliberately recommend its use? I wouldn't fret too much about it Andy. I've never known an air conditioning seal to disintegrate over 35 years of doing my own repairs. Simon

Hi Andy
I presume you are talking about the condenser O-rings and not the compressor O-rings ? IF the condenser O-rings then use a little red rubber grease on them. 1 2 If it's the compressor O-rings then just use the oil that's in the compressor dip your finger into the hole and smear the oil around the O-ring 3 4 Changed mine out a few days ago due to a leak, i am about to strip it down sometime today.

Cheers mate.
Yes, the condenser ones from when the fan came off. And I've already got a tin of red rubber grease, so all's good. |
