Default 20 years old this month.

My 2.5 rolled off the Cowley line in July 2000 and went to her first home in October of that year. I got her about 4 years ago with 83k on the clock and I've since added another 20k. In that time she's had: New Shannon tube, headlamp units replaced (snails in the old ones), new radiator and hoses, fan replaced, new belts and water pump, new thermostat assembly and pipes, new inlet manifold gaskets, replacement inlet manifold upper chamber and VIS motors, replacement headlining, flapping chrome trim replaced, boot lock assembly replaced, new upper strut bearings, drop links replaced, N/S rear upper suspension arm replaced, ATF changed, cam shaft end caps replaced, digital temperature gauge fitted, linear side repeaters fitted, interior lights changed to LED, brake and reversing lights changed to LED, bonnet release cable box turned and sealed, plenum inspection hole added and drain rodder assembled and carried in boot, rear light seals replaced, boot side vents re-sealed.

The head says I should find her a new loving home. The heart says I'll never find another one like her.

Sell her, and you can't reverse the decision.

Keep her, and with all that work done, you will indeed be lucky to find another Cowley one to replace her with.

If you hadn't mentioned replacing her, it's a 50/50 decision.

But at the end of the day, it is of course your choice. I would just say don't rush that decision.

Regards

Mike

If you are happy about it then keep as you don't want to be making any rash decisions.

Finding another one like it is going to be extremely difficult.

Couldn't contemplate getting shot of mine and Cowleys are becoming far and few between these days...

My old girl is 20 today - or at least was registered for the first time to me as first owner on 17th July 2000. The vin number ends 181548, so must be one of the last 40 or so to be built at Cowley.

I'm not in the habit of buying new cars very often so when I ordered this one I went for nearly all the options. The sills are the same colour as the body and without digging out all the old paperwork I don't recall this as being an option.

I've done just over 70,000 miles and had no major problems to date. Still on the original exhaust too. She is a lovely, comfortable old car and despite constant "advice" from another quarter to change her for a new one, I'm going to stick with her.

A bottle of something appropriate will be consumed later on to celebrate.

Hi there,

As my Zircon silver Cowley Club SE 2.5 celebrated her 20th anniversary of registration on 14 April at height of lockdown, I never got to mention it on here! In fact, she came off the production line in August 1999 so is almost 21!

Passed the delayed MOT yesterday after the seeming obligatory attention to the rear outer sills and apart from those ever irritating cosmetic blemishes to the front and rear bumpers, still looks well😊.

Happy birthdays and long life to all the Cowley cars here - and their owners😊.

Thanks, Pete!

The one 'advantage' of welded sills on a Cowley car is that they don't seem so obvious at a glance!

Our adopted cat has a similar official birthday too😊
