Default Roof box

Not sure if this is the best spot to ask for information only. I bought a nice set of original roof bars for a 75 saloon and now I'm looking for a roof box to go with it. I'm not sure what kind of box would fit best (make, model, size) so I was hoping somebody on this forum could help me out. Thanks.

I found that any noise from the roof bars was eliminated once a box was applied and I found a cheap second hand Karrite on an auction site. Cheap because it had a crack in it which was fixed with fibre glass.

You should consider how you want to access it, and I would suggest one that can be loaded from the passenger side is best.

Thanks planenut. And what about size? I saw a box 2.20m long. Isn't that a bit too much on a saloon? The bars are only 70 cm apart and I found advice somewhere saying a box should carry 50% of its load on and between bars, leaving 25% in front and 25% in the back. This would suggest that the length of a box ideally should be 1.40m or close (???) if you want to avoid the temptation to overload the front or back.

That is a long box, perhaps for skis? I would think it safe if the main bulk is over the rails and part of that length will presumably be the chamfered part?

I thought there was a rover supplied box, specially designed for the 75?

I seem to remember buying one years ago?

I found one 230x50x30, with the Rover emblem on it. Looks nice, but its huge. Haven't bought it yet, since I'm not sure such a giant would fit the small saloon roof.

@trikey: I'll keep an eye on the meet in September. I will probably go, but I need the box in August. Thanks anyway.

Yes, that is a long box. Like I said, if you spread the weight it will probably be very useful.
