Default CDT service

Just serviced my Pre Project CDT for the first time. The air filter was quite dirty but not too bad. What I did notice though was following the how to remove the air cleaner and air intake I had a short cut. There were no bolts holding the air intake on at all! That explains one of my rattles.
The oil was pretty black but then it is a diesel. I removed it using a Sealy vacuum pump.I got 6 and a quarter litres out. Superb bit of kit. Unfortunately it started raining so I will have a go at the fuel filter tomorrow. How good it is to know that it has all been done and not preported to have been done by some garage for upwards of £100. The engine looks very clean and no leaks at the intercooler.

Its very satisfying doing your own servicing, don't forget to do the pcv filter.

That's is on my list to do as I am going to do the plenum spyhole mod at the same time. Just waiting for my grommet to turn up. Halfords want £1.86 for one!

I used one of these too, following recommendations on here.
As you say, a very good piece of kit. You could almost do the oil change in a white suite
I'm still a little nervous about the possibility of more residual sludge being left at the bottom of the sump with this method.
But it's very straightforward so you can change the oil more frequently for reassurance on that point.

I got my engine warm before I did it as I didn't really know how long the oil had been in there. I didn't use a long enough probe to start with but once I did all went very well. I live in a street with a bit of a camber so I can't really tell when the oil level is correct. I put 5 and a half litres in then went to a flat piece of ground let it stand for half an hour then topped it up. I got exactly another three quarters of a litre in so the sealy pump must have got just about all of the oil out. Not bad.

Yes indeed very important to do this, but please be careful not to damage the return fuel pipe plastic fittings, when easing off, to access the PCV unit.

Bit of sunshine today and no rain forecast so I have finished my service. Fuel filter done , easy thanks to the "How to" and also changed the PCV filter thanks to Artics thread. It was absolutely filthy and had started to implode slightly. The plastic clip which holds the filter down has been broken at some stage does anyone think it really matters? She was running alright before but sounds much quieter now.
Next fine day it will the plenum mod and then I may get really adventurous and do the hand brake mod. I have done the bonnet release cable one.
One thing I like about modern cars is the self bleeding and the spring clips. I have noticed that oil seems to be coming up the left hand engine cover bolt mounting plate, the one in front of the oil filler cap. It doesn't leak out onto the engine cover but it is leaving a damp patch on the cam cover. Only very slightly.
