Default How do you put a dog in the car

So, I am the proud owner of a Rupert.

He is a 4 month old Lurcher puppy, weighs around 10KG and is very cute!

Unfortunately, Rupert has to go on many journe- sorry, adventures in the car. At the moment he's in a small cat crate, which is sat on the front seat secured with the seatbelt.

He fits and sleeps, but it's only going to get tighter as he gets older - so I need a new solution. And I don't want the risk of him jumping on me or out out the window or anything, so I'd need to secure him.

Of course, I own a saloon - so the boot isn't an option.

How does everyone else do it?

My best idea was to bolt his lead to the seat frame, and then secure the lead to him using a harness.

EDIT - I don't want to spend too much, either, as I may end up changing to a hatchback very soon for this reason!

You can buy a harness that clips through the seatbelt. It's specifically designed for dogs on a seat. We went through it and got recommended to buy one, in the end we got an estate.

Aldi do a rear seat cover that goes from the rear headrests to the front ones, kind of making a sort of u shaped tunnel.

Really hard wearing too, and has Velcro for the seatbelts etc...

Other than that, its tourer shopping for you Im afraid

The amazon link is like the ones Aldi have in at the minute. Reduced to £9.99 and very thick. Dark Green or Dark Grey.

Why couldn't I just say Hammock like Amazon

The nice thing, is that no hairs get down into the footwell or the back seats too.

My chocolate labrador has two choices, he either grips the towball with his teeth or goes in my daughters Citroen
No way would he ever get inside my Rover.

Get a dog like mine. She loves the car and will instantly lie down when she gets in and she is secured by a harness which clips through the seat belt. Just remember though that it must be a certain weight to make the belts operate correctly. As she is a Labradoodle she doesn't molt much. With a car worth £800 at the most why worry?
